Congressman John James Votes to End Biden’s Student Loan Scheme

Contact: Abby Mitch

Rep. John James voted in favor of an Education and the Workforce Committee Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to overturn President Biden’s unlawful student loan transfer scheme.

The resolution states Biden both violated his oath of office and eviscerated the Constitution by pushing his radical “free” college agenda without the approval of Congress.

“The Biden administration’s student loan ‘forgiveness’ plan is both unconstitutional and immoral,” James said. “The American Dream isn't handed out; it's earned. Hardworking Americans who made prudent financial decisions shouldn't be punished with others' debt. The Biden administration’s decision to unilaterally ram through their agenda ignores the Constitution and circumvents Congress. Worse, it leaves students, institutions, taxpayers, and our economy holding the bag. Today’s resolution is an important step toward reasserting Congress’ duty check executive overreach and holding this administration accountable.”

Biden’s student loan scheme saddles hardworking taxpayers with the debt of those who willingly took out loans. Canceling these debts would raise college costs even more by signaling to schools that the government will cushion the blow of higher tuition. Furthermore, blanket loan bailouts fuel the inflation crisis plaguing Americans and increase the risk of recession, which Congressman James has pledged to combat.

The resolution passed committee by a vote of 24 to 18. Rep. James serves on the Education and the Workforce Committee.
