HARRISON TOWNSHIP, MI – Today, Rep. John James (MI-10) visited the South River Multi-Use Path in Harrison Township to announce the inclusion of $1,120,000 in Community Project Funding in the House Appropriations bills. The grant would add an additional 1-1/2 miles of path and connect over 1,000 homes as well as three schools to the path system. Community Project Funding requests made by Members of Congress are allocated within their respective federal agency program accounts and do not raise overall spending levels.

Rep. James released the following statement upon the announcement:

"Fitness and mental health are key to a balanced lifestyle, and the Freedom Trail provides a safe and beautiful environment to tackle both of these issues right here in our community,” James said. “I look forward to getting this project across the finish line.”

The South River Multi-Use Path, also known as the Freedom Trail, was originally spearheaded by current Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller in the early 1990s. It has since been expanded and enhanced over the years.
