Representatives John James and a bipartisan delegation including Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), Ann Wagner (R-Mo.), Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.) and 25 other members of Congress sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging the U.S. Department of State to work with members of the Abraham Accords to expand and incorporate normalization with Israel and Accord membership into our U.S.-Africa strategy.

The letter comes on the heels of high-level discussions by American officials in Africa and follows promises made during the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. The Abraham Accords provide a critical opportunity to strengthen our relationships with African leaders.

“As chairman of the Africa Subcommittee and a staunch supporter of Israel, I believe we must strive to preserve peace with our Israeli brothers and sisters, including in our strategy in Africa,” James said.“President Trump paved the way for peace in the Middle East by signing the Abraham Accords. Now, it’s time to expand them to Africa, especially as China and Russia continue to grow their influence on the continent. Bringing the Accords’ success to Africa is vital to America’s national security interest.”

The Abraham Accords were an historic accomplishment of the Trump administration and have played a key role in establishing peace and cooperation between Israel and Arab nations in the Middle East and parts of North Africa.

As a veteran of the Iraq war and chairman of the Subcommittee on Africa, Rep. James will always support enhancing and protecting America’s national security interests in Africa and beyond.

Rep. James’ letter is supported by the American Jewish Committee (AJC), the Republican Jewish Committee (RJC), and the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA). Read it here.
