Tonight, Representative John James (MI-10) voted to pass Republicans’ stopgap government funding bill. The bill will fund the government into early next year, thereby averting a government shutdown.

Rep. James released the following statement after passage:

“I’m proud to have joined a majority of my colleagues to avert a government shutdown and ensure our troops don’t miss a paycheck right before Christmas. But let’s be honest, we don’t want the kids of those troops—or the next generation of Americans as a whole—to inherit the colossal $33.6 trillion national debt that we have,” James said. “That’s why I’m working with my Republican colleagues on a long-term solution to our national debt, including a debt commission to address this issue.”
