EAGLE PASS, TX – This week, Representative John James (MI-10) and several of his Republican colleagues visited the United States-Mexico border at Eagle Pass, Texas. The congressman received a briefing from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, met with local stakeholders, and toured the border with officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Rep. James issued the following statement upon his return from Texas:
“What I witnessed on our southern border was simultaneously heartbreaking and infuriating. We saw military-aged males crossing the river in broad daylight—right in front of us—while we were there talking with Border Patrol,” James said. “The Biden Administration’s broken border policies force us to take migrants at their word about who they are and where they’re from. The reality is we have no idea who’s in our country. The greatest threat to our country and national security is DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who is refusing to implement existing laws to keep Americans safe. We will hold him accountable.”
Rep. James has been vocal on the border issue, particularly regarding the lethal drugs infecting Michigan’s Tenth District and the surge in crossings on the U.S.-Canada border, which have risen 500%. He joined the House Republican majority in voting to pass H.R.2, the Secure the Border Act, seven months ago.
