WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative John James (MI-10) hosted Mario Andretti on Capitol Hill this week to discuss Formula One's decision to exclude an Andretti Motors race car from league competition, which would be the first ever American-built and manufactured car in the league. Earlier this week, Rep. James wrote a letter to Formula One (F1) parent company Liberty Media Corporation CEO Greg Maffei regarding the decision to exclude this General Motors-built car from competing in F1.

Rep. James said the following during a press conference he hosted alongside Mr. Andretti:

"This is a big opportunity for Formula One, but if they want access to American markets, they need to play by our rules. American autos should have the opportunity to compete against other autos across the world. And that’s why we’re here," said James. "F1 just held a race literally on Pennsylvania Avenue last weekend. They wanted America’s attention--well they got it. We’re here today to say that America demands to race one of our cars in F1 competitions."
