Congressman John James Votes to Back the Blue During Police Week

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 17, 2024 | Noah Sadlier (202-225-4961)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In honor of National Police Week, the House of Representatives passed a slew of bills to support law enforcement and first responders across the nation. Representative John James (MI-10) voted in favor of each of these measures, reaffirming his commitment to support our law enforcement officers.

Rep. James issued the following statement following National Police Week:

“Police Week is an opportunity to recognize and say thank you to the brave men and women who choose to wear a uniform and run towards danger, not away from it. Upholding the thin blue line between chaos and civility is a thankless job, and it’s one that has come under attack. Soft on crime policies, rogue prosecutors, and the demonization of our law enforcement officers has exacerbated crime and greatly increased the risks they face. This past week, House Republicans spearheaded a number of bills to support our law enforcement officers, condemn left-wing attempts to defund the police, and advance other similar pro-police measures. I was proud to vote in support of these bills, which all passed the House of Representatives.”

In addition to these bills, Rep. James also joined as a cosponsor to H.R.82, the Social Security Fairness Act. H.R. 82 would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) Social Security provisions, a priority for law enforcement and first responders to boost recruitment and retainment.
