This week, Congressman John James (MI-10) joined township officials in Harrison Township to celebrate the $1.12 million in federal funding that he secured during last year’s congressional appropriations process for a South River multi-use path in Harrison Township. The funding will go towards creating a path which will bolster recreation, improve health and wellness of the community, provide a safer route for pedestrians, and connect several schools together. Rep. James provided a refund check to Harrison Township officials to signify that Michiganders’ tax dollars belong back in their community.

Rep. James issued the following statement regarding the funds:

We're here to reaffirm our commitment that we are bringing resources back to you for a much-needed South River multi-use path. This is $1.1 million for a mile and a half stretch that's going to help those in the area, get out, stretch their legs, work on physical fitness, and general family enjoyment. And most importantly, this is your money coming back from the federal government. This is your money that you deserve, this is your refund check. And it's an honor for me and my team to work for you in Washington and to make sure that you are getting your fair share right here in Motown.”

Similarly, Harrison Township Supervisor Kenneth Verkest said the following during the event:

“Congressman, first and foremost on behalf of Harrison Township, thank you very much. I love the idea of the refund. It is, this is our money. This is federal money. This path is very meaningful, it’s part of the county’s master plan, a section we needed to add. And it also connects several schools, so it makes a much safer option, and we again, are very, very happy. Thank you very much.”
