John James Helps Secure $244,608 Grant for Sterling Heights Police Department

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 9, 2024 | Noah Sadlier (202-225-4961)

MACOMB COUNTY, MI – This week, Representative John James (MI-10) announced that his office had helped to secure a $244,608 grant for the Sterling Heights Police Department for the Fiscal Year 2024 Collaborative Crisis Response and Intervention Training Program. This funding will go directly to the Sterling Heights Police Department, so that officers are able to receive comprehensive training in crisis intervention techniques, de-escalation strategies, and mental health awareness.

Rep. James issued the following statement regarding the Sterling Heights Police Department grant:

“As a combat veteran, I’ve seen how training and proper resources can save lives. I know the critical importance of investing in training programs for law enforcement, particularly in the realm of crisis intervention and mental health response. Our men and women in blue are heroes, and I will always support them in their mission to protect our communities. This grant will help to keep both our officers and our communities safe and secure.”

This grant reflects Rep. James’ commitment to battling the “hopelessness crisis,” and follows the course of legislation he has introduced, such as the “Reignite Hope Act,” which would establish a tax credit for essential workers, such as police officers, and make permanent certain expiring provisions relating to the child tax credit—which would support all families in our communities.
