Congressman John James Announces Congressional Art Contest Winners

Mt. Clemens, Mich. – Rep. John James announced the District 10 winners of the annual Congressional art competition at a reception Wednesday evening. The event, which was held at Mt. Clemens Library, featured 34 pieces by 27 student artists representing eight schools. The winning pieces were selected by a jury of artists from the Anton Art Center in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. 

First place went to Gilberto by Robert Doherty, Grade 12, of Lakeview High School. As the winning artist, Doherty is invited to attend the Congressional Art Reception in Washington, D.C. His winning work will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year and featured online.

Second place went to Dragonfruit by Dorian Ventimiglia, Grade 11, of Lakeview High School. In third place was Divine Feminine by Ella Bresky, Grade 12, of Arts Academy in the Woods. Honorable mentions include The Matrix by Jorjia Montgomery, Grade 10, Arts Academy in the Woods, and Split by Devlyn Ward, Grade 9, Lakeview High School. 

“I was blown away by the talent in my district,” James said. “It’s so important to foster art and culture in our society. In a world where we are increasingly online, creating and doing is more important than ever. It’s clear the next generation of artists are up to the task. Thank you for sharing your creativity and imagination.”
