Rep. John James Votes for FY24 National Defense Authorization Act; Two James Amendments Included in Final Bill

Contact: Noah Sadlier

Today, Representative John James (MI-10) voted in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024. The FY24 NDAA includes many provisions to strengthen our defense, counter China, and enhance our defense industrial base. This legislation also includes an historic pay increase for our heroic junior-enlisted service members.

Included in the FY24 NDAA are two amendments introduced by Rep. James:

• Amendment No. 1074 will increase capacity for additional F-15EX fighters to recapitalize bases that are losing their A-10 squadrons, like Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Rep. James has been a passionate and vocal supporter of Selfridge and testified in the House Rules Committee for inclusion of this amendment earlier in the week.

• Amendment No. 1484 requires the Departments of Defense and State to conduct a joint assessment on current and future constraints to our defense supply chain, particularly related to weapons manufacturing for our military and foreign military sales (FMS).

Both amendments passed unanimously.

Rep. James issued the following statement regarding the inclusion of Amendment No. 1074, which has the potential to bring $30.6 million in development to Michigan’s 10th Congressional District:

“Bringing the F-15EX mission to Selfridge as well as increasing our capacity to project combat power by solidifying our industrial base is vital to our national interest. It is also in the interest of Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, where Selfridge plays a central role in our local economy,” said James. “I will continue to fight for this key base and I am encouraged by this monumental step towards strengthening Selfridge Air National Guard Base.”
