Warren, Michigan – Upon the news that the Air Force will not make Macomb County’s Selfridge Air National Guard Base the international training center for its F-35 fighter aircraft, Congressman John James vowed to continue advocating for investments in Selfridge.

“Michigan is perfectly positioned for securing our northern defense. We have the manufacturing and innovation core necessary for the next generation of defense technology like hypersonics,” James said. “Selfridge has had a fighter mission for 106 years. Fighters are in our DNA. The fight for a fighter mission and futures is not over. I don’t give up that easily and neither does Michigan!”

Congressman James led a bicameral, bipartisan effort to protect the future of Selfridge ANGB and bring a long-term fighter mission to the district. One of his first actions in Congress was to send a letter to Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall III and introduce a resolution emphasizing the historical contributions and critical importance of Selfridge to the United States’ long-term defense.
