Rep. John James today voted to approve House Republican’s first bill of the 118th Congress, which puts forward a plan to make America energy- and critical mineral-independent.
The multi-section proposal, H.R. 1, increases the production and exportation of American energy, slashes regulatory burdens that stifle infrastructure, and puts more money in Americans’ pockets. The legislation is an important step toward undoing the damage of the Biden administration’s destructive, energy-killing policies and follows through on one pillar of our Commitment to America.
“I promised my neighbors back home that I would pursue policies that lower prices at the gas pump and grocery store. That is exactly what this bill will do,” James said. “America cannot rely on dictators and despots for our energy. By being energy secure and pursuing safe, secure American-made energy, we will be able to lower prices, grow jobs and re-shore domestic manufacturing. We will be able to cut off dependency on exports from aggressors like Russia and support our Ukrainian allies by exporting to Europe American-made energy.”
The bill includes James’ National Strategy to Re-Shore Mineral Supply Chains amendment, which directs the United States government to identify and develop a strategy to bolster American production of minerals, which is cleaner than foreign imports and humanely-sourced. James noted that domestic mineral production is key to national security as well as increase the resiliency of our supply chain.
“Mining is essential to our energy strategy and manufacturing independence,” said James. “Without independent, secure, and safe minerals, there is no manufacturing independence. Worse, there is no national security.
“I represent the #1 manufacturing district in the country. America has leaned on Macomb County during a world war and a global pandemic. We expect to be called upon again, and we stand ready to help. But we must be prepared. That starts with a National Strategy to Re-Shore Mineral Supply Chains.”
The Congressman serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and chairs the Africa Subcommittee, focused on countering China’s influence in the continent, boosting global demand for US-made goods and energy, and ending slavery in our supply chains.
