Contact: Abby Mitch Congressman John James today introduced his first piece of legislation, the “Protecting Social Security and Medicare Act,’ a bill that will ensure America’s seniors receive their benefits on time. The bill would exempt both Social Security and Medicare from the statutory debt limit, protecting seniors’ incomes in the event of a government default on the debt. “Our seniors are not a bargaining chip for Big Government to use to justify its out-of-control spending. This bill puts a definitive end to that,” James said. “It’s time stop scoring cheap points with misleading soundbites. We will make government more accountable. We will cut fraud, waste and abuse in our budget. But we will not do it by leaving our seniors with the bill.” James’ bill is the House companion to Sen. Josh Hawley’s (R-MO) bill, the “Keep Our Promises” Act, which was introduced in the Senate last week. ### |
